Upcoming Documentary Screening
Unsung: Queer Portraits of Authenticity and the Cost of Its Absence
Hi everyone! You may have noticed I was absent in May, which wasn’t my intention. I have been navigating difficult and overlapping periods of change and transition, including the death of my beloved grandfather, a job change, and a move.
So today, in lieu of an essay, I come with an announcement: I will be featured in an upcoming documentary titled Unsung: Queer Portraits of Authenticity and the Cost of Its Absence!
A lyrical short film amplifying the voices of four LGBTQ+ individuals as they reclaim identity, rewrite inherited narratives, and step into the quiet power of living truthfully. Unsung is a meditation on authenticity, well-being, and what it costs to be silenced — and what it gives to be seen.
This 35-minute documentary is a collaborative project between
and , and features myself, , , and antmen pimentel mendoza. There will be an online screening of the film at 2pm ET this Sunday, June 29th, followed by a Q&A session. The screening link can be found below!
I would love it if you could make it and spend time with us - I so enjoyed being interviewed by Kimberly as a part of this project. It was an honor to be invited to tell my story! Here’s a sneak peak of one of my clips:
Thank you all for being here to witness my journey in all the forms I’m able to share it. Thank you to
for inviting me onto this project and thank you to for being a sensitive and thoughtful host. I can’t wait for you all to see it!
You are a radiant being Aris and this film shines in part because of your light. Everything that spilled from your mind/heart was authentic, infectiously warm and wise and we couldn't be happier with how it all came together. So excited to share with the world this weekend!
