Mutual exchange for collective benefit.
Reciprocity is exchange enacted for mutual benefit. A reciprocal exchange differs from a transactional one because both parties in a reciprocal exchange are invested in the other’s well-being; I know I am providing something meaningful to you in exchange for something meaningful to me. Together, we are both uplifted.
Reciprocity is one way individual actions benefit the whole. When we nurture or honor a relationship through reciprocity, the individual benefits radiate into collective well-being. If my needs are met, then I am better equipped to help others meet their needs.
